The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and the city of Austin Small Minority Business Resources Department (SMBR) are co-hosting a three-part "Gateway 2 Concessions" prep series in September. This series is designed for small businesses interested in operating concessions at the airport and is part of AUS's "Journey With AUS" expansion program, which aims to diversify its concessionaires by bringing in more local businesses.
The "Gateway 2 Concessions" series includes:
- Gate 1 (September 3, virtual workshop): This session will provide a foundational overview of the Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) program, covering goal setting, certification steps, and the program's role in future opportunities at AUS.
- Gate 2 (September 10, in-person workshop): Titled "A Real Look into Concession Opportunities," this workshop will feature insights from experienced concession operators and industry experts, offering a practical understanding of daily operations, contract terms, and long-term development within an airport environment. Cassandra Boseman, Principal Owner of ONE Enterprise Group, will be a guest speaker.
- Gate 3 (September 17): This course, "Business Concepts and Revenue Contracts," will focus on understanding business capabilities, ensuring correct NAICS code certifications, and identifying key questions to ask before proposing on concession opportunities. An airport industry expert in aviation procurements will lead this discussion.
