Austin Korean Association

A recap of Austin FC's free World Cup watch party — June 11, 2026

What a night. Thanks to Austin FC's free Soccer Celebration at Auditorium Shores, hundreds of fans gathered under the lights on June 11 to watch South Korea take on Czechia in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup — and the crowd was treated to a thriller.

South Korea fell behind early to a Czech goal, but fought back in the second half. Hwang In-beom leveled the score with a moment of brilliance, and substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu sealed a dramatic 2-1 comeback win just 11 minutes from the final whistle. The energy at Auditorium Shores matched the drama on the field — cheers, chants, and a sea of red filled the park from kickoff to final whistle.

A Crowd That Reflected Austin

One of the best parts of the night wasn't just the result — it was who showed up. The crowd was large, energetic, and wonderfully mixed. Korean families, students, and longtime supporters came out in force, but they weren't alone. Plenty of non-Korean neighbors, friends, and fellow Austinites joined in too, cheering alongside everyone else, trying their first taste of Korean fan culture, and soaking in the atmosphere of a true World Cup celebration.

That mix is exactly what made the night special. For a few hours, Auditorium Shores wasn't just a Korean event or an Austin FC event — it was an Austin event. Strangers became fellow fans. Conversations started over shared excitement. And for many, it was a reminder of how sports have a way of bringing people together that few other things can.

Why Gatherings Like This Matter

Austin Korean Association exists to help our community connect — with each other, and with the broader Austin community we call home. Nights like June 11 are a perfect example of why that matters. When we come together to support Team Korea, we're not just cheering for a team. We're building visibility, friendships, and pride — and we're showing our neighbors what Korean culture and community spirit look like, in a setting that's open, joyful, and welcoming to everyone.

We're grateful to Austin FC for creating the space for this to happen, and we're proud of how our community showed up — loud, proud, and ready to share the moment with anyone who wanted to join in.

The Celebration Continues at Casa Verde

The good news? This was just the beginning. Austin FC's Casa Verde at Inn Cahoots is now open in East Austin — a free, 37-day World Cup hub with daily watch parties for every match through the Final on July 19. Whether South Korea advances or you simply want to keep the community spirit going, Casa Verde is the place to be all summer long.

As always, admission is free, but RSVP is required to attend.

See You at the Next One

To everyone who came out on June 11 — Korean and non-Korean, longtime soccer fans and first-timers alike — thank you for making it such a memorable night. This is what community looks like, and we can't wait to do it again. Keep an eye on AKA's channels for updates on upcoming Casa Verde watch parties, and we hope to see you there as Team Korea continues its World Cup journey.
